Timely Releases

Maniac Art Pond | Thaw

2 May 2008 at 12:00 by Drew

It is the first Friday in May and we are pretty much up to last frost here. Things are greening up. We are ready to plant our garden. Yay Spring!

I wrote this one back in mid-March while I was working on Winter Colors. Really this is more of a Spring song, though, and will not be appearing on the album.

I know that I said that I would not be putting up any more demos or anything. This has been out for a while, though, so it does not count. Up until now it has only been available on the Maniac Art Pond MySpace page. In an attempt to get up at least one Timely Release a month, though, you can hear it here now as well.

This demo was recorded entirely with sampled instruments using Apple Logic. I am planning to rerecord the bass (which I have since rewritten for cello) and flute using real instruments during the Winter Colors sessions.

Enjoy.

Spandex Jellybeans | Doggie Cha Cha

4 April 2008 at 12:00 by Drew

Just as 2008 was starting, Jessie and I got together and wrote some new Spandex Jellybeans songs. As usual, our dog Emma was underfoot quite a bit, wanting to be right in the middle of anything musical. And wanting food. And wanting to be continually pet. This song is a fun little ditty I wrote for her. I even sang it, which is a bit of a rarity for the Jellybeans.

This has been up for a while on the Spandex Jellybeans MySpace page. Both in the name of completeness and to help out those who have been having problems listening to music on MySpace, here it is. Perhaps not the most timely Timely Release, but not the least timely either.

You might notice that I am back to MP3s. After some complaints about being unable to play AAC files, I guess that AAC is not quite the universal format that I had been led to believe. Thankfully (?) I do not have enough downloads to require me to pay for distribution of MP3 files, so MP3 should be just fine for the moment.

Enjoy.

chum | rooftop bells – sketch 1

11 August 2007 at 0:00 by Drew

Here we are. Finally. The complete album is now available to listen to.

The last track of chum | CHUM is also available at the bottom of this post. Think of this as being a lock-groove, sort of like the little outro thing on the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Seriously, you should probably go and listen to the whole album, just so that you can see how things like this fit in.

I probably recorded this one at about the same time as I recorded chum. Just a weird repetitive little piece that was originally going to be part of a larger song, but it just sort of sat in this state, stubbornly refusing to budge. As it is, I do not know that it would fit anywhere but in the lock-groove. I do like it all the same.

You can also now check out chum | CHUM in its entirety, if you want to see how it all fits together, or simply want to check out the album art and the liner notes.

Tschuess.
